Cuban musician Eliades Ochoa, who rose to international fame as one of the original members of the Buena Vista Social Club, will be returning to London this autumn for a concert at KOKO on 29 October 2023. The show will feature classic repertoire from Ochoa’s career, as well as songs from his new album, Guajiro, which will be released on 26 May 2023. The album, which includes mostly original compositions, is his most personal and intimate yet, telling the story of his life through song.

When Ochoa first became a part of the Buena Vista Social Club in 1997, he was the young gun in comparison to his legendary bandmates like Compay Segundo and Ibrahim Ferrer. However, a quarter of a century later, Ochoa is now the veteran, with his own storied career and a reputation as a masterful musician. He has won four Latin Grammy Awards for his 2012 album, Un Bolero Para Ti, and was the first Cuban to receive the Latin Award Canada in 2018.

Ochoa’s involvement in the Buena Vista Social Club was a significant contribution to their success, both on the album and in the accompanying documentary film. His vitality and skill have also been featured on his own solo albums, with collaborations from musicians such as Ry Cooder and David Hildago. In 2010, he was a key collaborator on the Grammy-nominated album AfroCubism, which brought together musicians from Mali and Cuba.

With the release of Guajiro, Eliades Ochoa adds another chapter to his already impressive career. The album is a testament to his past, while also ambitiously taking his music into new and exciting directions. His concert at KOKO in London promises to be a celebration of his career, featuring both classic hits and new material. Tickets for the show will be available starting on 6 April 2023.
