Eat Out to Help Out: top 5 in food

We’re into the third week of the government’s new ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme which came into effect on the 3 August and will last through to the end of the month. The innovative new scheme gives people 50% off their bill at thousands of restaurants across the country from Monday toWednesday and is designed to encourage us all to support the hospitality industry following the nationwide lockdown. Here are some of our favourite restaurants participating in the scheme this week. 

 

Mortimer House Kitchen 

#FLODown: Located in trendy Fitzrovia, Mortimer House Kitchen is the ground floor Mediterranean brassiere for the member’s only work and wellbeing club. Lead by Head Chef Lello Favuzzi, Mortimer House Kitchen is open to the public. With the restaurants open plan layout which features plenty of indoor greenery and plush sofas sat upon Persian rugs, it’s a cosy place to unwind and indulge in some classic Mediterranean dishes. In this current heat wave, you may prefer to dine alfresco on their terrace. 

The offer: Mortimer house have created a set menu with 2 courses for £10 that features dishes including mini lamb kebabs and smoked aubergine with tahini and baked pitta.

Casa do Frango  

#FLODown: Casa do Frango brings a taste of Southern Portugal to the London food scene. The London Bridge located piri – piri chicken restaurant is also home to a very cool secret bar in the basement! Whist the Algarvian style piri-piri chicken is the main focus of their menu; they also have a selection of sharing plates with flavoursome dishes including bacalhau fritters, sweet potato feijoada and piri – piri garlic prawns. 

Once you've finished dining, why not head down to their hidden speakeasy style cocktail bar - The Green Room, where they serve up some classic cocktails in a chic romantic setting. If you’re looking to dine alfresco and cool down in his scorching summer, head to their Shoreditch location. 

The offer: From Monday to Wednesday, Casa do Frango are offering 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks up to the value of £10 per person at both locations the London Bridge and Shoreditch locations.

Padella Borough Market

#FLODown: Known to have one of London’s longest queues, this key fixture on Borough Market Road operates on simplicity and more than delivers with their incredible slow-cooked sauces and freshly made pasta. Favourites include gnocchi with nutmeg butter, pici cacio and pepe as well as tagliarini with Dorset crab, chilli and lemon.

Padella are trying to avoid the usual queues outside of their Borough Market venue and will be operating a virtual queue system where you can join the queue to be seated using the WalkIn app. Alternatively, if you get there early you can scan the QR code at the front door and they’ll text you when your table is ready. The offer: Get 50% off food and soft drinks, up to £10 from Monday to Wednesday. That means their signature pici cacio and pepe could cost you only £3. The same offer is available at their Shoreditch location. Note that they do not accept American Express payments.

Fish, Wings and Tings Brixton Village 

#FLODown: Inspired by his grandmother, Chef Brian Danclair is putting a trendy spin on Caribbean street food, with dishes including reggae wings, prawn roti and the classic jerk chicken with rice and peas. Opened in 2012, Fish, Wings and Tings has a vibrant atmosphere to match the seriously good food! They source a lot of their produce locally so supporting them means you’ll also be supporting some of the other local businesses in the area.

They are open for lunch, dinner and good ole cocktails including our favourite, rum punch!

The offer: Get 50% off food, up to £10 from Tuesday - Wednesday. No need to book just head down there and wait to be seated.

Social Eating House

#FLODown: The Michelin starred Social Eating House offers a contemporary bistro menu including rib-eye steak, Herdwick lamb rump and a selection of tasty seafoods, in a lively yet informal setting. Known for its affordable dining experience, the third restaurant by celebrated chef Jason Atherton is a Soho hotspot. The restaurant is split over three levels featuring a cocktail bar (The Blind Pig) on the first floor.

The offer: Social Eating House is offering a Prix Fixe menu, available during lunch and dinner, for only £18 per person for 3 courses or £12 per person for 2 courses. They are also offering £10 off per person on all over menus from Tuesday – Wednesday throughout August.
