London at home: ways to entertain yourself during lockdown

With everyone self-isolating and practising social distancing over the next few weeks, we thought we’d share some of our favourite activities and things to do from your living room!

Get stuck into a book

Remember that book that you bought 18 months ago and it’s been gathering dust ever since? Now is pretty much the perfect time to start reading it. If you are in need of some inspiration on books to purchase then check out our book reviews for some great reads.

Get creative

Tap into your inner artist and express your thoughts through music, painting, sketching or even a sculpture! Make use of all the random bits and bobs you have in your house and zone out of the real world for a while.

Binge watch

Let your inner couch potato shine because now is the time to catch up on all those Netflix shows that you’ve heard about but have never got around to watching.Never watched Lost? Game of Thrones? Killing Eve? Or if you’ve watched all of those and need some inspiration check out our TV and Film reviews.

Get social

You may have heard the words House Party or Zoom being thrown around casually at the moment… they are apps that are basically a huge upgrade on the old fashioned Skype.

If you’re missing your friends why not set up a quiz evening, or a cheese and wine night, or your own virtual book club? Make use of the technology available to stay in touch with people that you love.

Tik Tok

This social media craze is taking the world by storm. Surely everyone has heard of Tik Tok dances by now? There are a huge range of videos on the app to suit everyone’s preferences, including cooking videos, make up, and comedy or parody videos. You will most likely lose a few hours of your life to this app, but what’s the harm if it makes you happy?

 Volunteer

The NHS is looking for volunteers to help up to 1.5 million vulnerable people who have been asked to self-isolate. Volunteers will be helping with tasks ranging from delivering medicines, to making phone calls and checking in on people isolating at home.

Visit the NHS website to sign up.

Reorganise or redecorate

Utilise this valuable time at home to finally sort out your wardrobe and de-clutter your home. If you’re feeling extra creative why not redecorate? Not only will you be supporting the economy by purchasing some cool new items for your home, but you will also be making your home a lovely place to be in right now.

Tap into your inner Nigella

Cooking and eating is definitely one of life’s greatest pleasures. We are loving the trend started by Laura Jackson called #makeameal of it which encourages us to still make an effort. Set the table nicely, light some candles, cook yourself a three course meal, why not treat yourself to a cocktail?

If you are lacking in inspiration of what to cook why not check out our recipes – or, no one will judge you for ordering in the odd time!
