Lockdown has been lifted - here’s what is open this July

As the lockdown continues to ease, London’s cultural venues, restaurants, bars and markets prepare to reopen from the 4th July. Here’s what we know so far - check back in the next week for our weekly updates on what’s opening in London.

Columbia Road Flower Market

 When?

Sunday July 5

#FLODown: The market will be opening on Sunday (July 5) from 8am to 2pm. However, there will be a number of safety measures in place including limiting the number of people that can enter the market. Stalls will also be vastly spread out compared to what you may be used to at the market.

The market organisers are calling on those who are local to come along and support the market, however, those that live further away are advised to support a market closer to home to prevent unsafe overcrowding.

If you’re local to the market get your floral fix this weekend! If you aren’t local, lookout for announcements on when it may be safe to head to the iconic flower market.

The Barbican Conservatory

When?

Monday, July 13

#FLODown: Home to more than 1,500 species of tropical plants and trees, the Barbican Conservatory is the second biggest conservatory in London and definitely an underrated location in the city.

For the first time ever the Barbican will be open to the public on weekdays, as opposed to just selected Sundays. If you think lockdown has made you a plant expert, head to the conservatory to put your knowledge to the test on one of their guided tours! This tropical oasis is also a great place to relax and recuperate.

Cineworld and Picture House

 When?

Friday, July 31

#FLODown: Although Cineworld cinemas and its Picturehouse chain were due to open on July 10, the date has been pushed back to July 31. Cineworld have claimed this is due to a delay in several film releases, namely Tenet and Mulan, both of which have had openings pushed from July to August (August 12 and 21 respectively). Understandably, measures will be in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus such as small audience sizes and more Perspex screen to keep staff and customers safe.

Cineworld staff have also started a petition calling for masks to be mandatory for all customers attending the cinema. So far there’s been no word from Cineworld but keep watch to see if they’ll be taking an action with regards to this.

The Tate

When?

Monday, July 27

#FLODOwn: The Tate Modern and Britain is opening to the public once again on July 27. Entry to the Tate Modern and Britain remains free for all (with additional charges for some exhibitions). All visitors, including those who are members, will be required to book a timed ticket prior to visiting.

The Tate has yet to open their booking system but it is expected to be available soon alongside some more detailed information and guidance on further requirements to visit.
