August is a great time to explore London’s dining scene, with new openings, seasonal menus and summer terraces offering plenty of reasons to book a table. Duchy

#FLODown: Duchy, from two former Leroy employees, has quickly established itself as one of Shoreditch’s most exciting new restaurants, drawing inspiration from the culinary traditions of the French-Italian borderlands. The menu celebrates seasonal produce through beautifully executed dishes, from anchovy and salted butter crostini and ricotta-stuffed courgette flower with bagna càuda to pappardelle with girolles and stone bass with fennel and samphire. The curated wine list mirrors the menu, with a focus on producers from France, Italy and the Alpine regions. With cooking of this calibre and an excellent value set lunch, Duchy is a standout choice this month.

DakaDaka

#FLODown: DakaDaka introduces Mayfair to the distinctive flavours of Georgian cuisine, with a menu that celebrates the country’s traditional dishes, seasonal ingredients and ancient winemaking culture. Expect beautifully executed plates including pkhali, khinkali, grilled seabass with two styles of ajika, and a selection of smaller dishes designed for sharing. The wine list is a highlight, curated by acclaimed sommelier Honey Spencer, featuring Georgian wines made from indigenous grape varieties, including traditional qvevri-fermented bottles from small producers. Set around an open-fire kitchen with a thoughtfully designed interior, DakaDaka offers a wonderful introduction to Georgia’s food and wine traditions.

#FLODown: The Veuve Clicquot Summer Terrace at Whitcomb’s at The Londoner Hotel has returned for the season, bringing Champagne, Mediterranean-inspired dining and an elegant al fresco setting to the heart of Leicester Square. New this year is the Champagne Art Gallery, a curated menu celebrating Veuve Clicquot’s collection with Champagne flights, signature cocktails and a selection of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, including Seabass Ceviche, Gambas Pil Pil and Crispy-Skinned Sea Bass Fillet. Dessert highlights include Mango and Caramel Mousse and Lemon Meringue & Frozen Maple Yoghurt. Miokuru

#FLODown: Miokuru has brought a new take on Japanese dining to Soho with its 20-seat handroll bar, offering a “British-born, Japanese-inspired” experience focused on locally sourced ingredients, from seafood to sake. The intimate counter-style setting sees handrolls prepared fresh to order, keeping the rice warm and nori crisp, alongside small plates such as hand-dived scallops with chilli sesame oil and spring onions. The drinks menu features sake from London’s own Kanpai brewery, while the hidden 10-seat EKI cocktail bar offers a more intimate setting for drinks and group dining. An excellent choice for a cosy date night.

Lady of the Grapes

#FLODown: Lady of the Grapes has expanded from Covent Garden to a second location near Borough Market, offering a peaceful escape from the bustle of the area. Set inside the historic Menier Chocolate Factory, the new venue is a light-filled French bistro with the hidden Forbidden Fruit wine bar downstairs. Known for championing female winemakers and organic, biodynamic, and minimal-intervention wines, the restaurant offers an impressive selection by the glass and carafe. The menu features French-inspired dishes including oysters, gougères, grilled turbot, duck aux olives, and seasonal desserts. It’s a great choice for capture with friends over great wine or a pre-theatre meal. Set lunch is available at £24 for two courses and £29 for three.

Lillie’s Wine Bar & Restaurant

#FLODown: Lillie’s is one of the most exciting additions to Olympia’s £1.3 billion redevelopment, a rooftop restaurant and wine bar set beneath the venue’s glass canopy. The interiors blend soft botanical tones with abundant greenery, natural textures and a spacious terrace overlooking the surrounding area. The menu celebrates seasonal British produce, with highlights including Orkney scallops with garlic and herb butter, Devon crab salad with citrus dressing, lobster and prawn brioche rolls, and Isle of Wight heritage tomatoes with whipped goat’s curd. The wine list is a standout feature, focusing on French wines alongside English sparkling wines and bottles from across Europe.

Morchella

#FLODown: Morchella in Clerkenwell has introduced a new seasonal barbecue menu, adding charcoal-grilled dishes to its Mediterranean-inspired offering. Served on the terrace overlooking Exmouth Market, the menu celebrates the restaurant’s network of producers, with six rotating dishes highlighting seasonal ingredients and suppliers. Whatever you order, make sure you try the sweetcorn finished with crab and chilli butter and the Parmentier potatoes, both are definitely some of the best we’ve had. Alongside the barbecue, Morchella’s wine bar focuses on Mediterranean coastal wines from environmentally conscious growers, with a selection of bottles that complement the seasonal menu. The weekday lunch menu is also available, offering two courses for £25.

The Shed Notting Hill

#FLODown: A longstanding favourite in Notting Hill, The Shed continues to champion seasonal British cooking with produce from the Gladwin family farm and vineyard in West Sussex. New this month is its all-British seafood platter (£79), served with a bottle of Nutbourne Pinot Gris, featuring sustainably sourced oysters, scallop ceviche, mussels, octopus salad, hand-picked crab and either half a lobster or pink langoustines, depending on the catch. Pair it with the restaurant’s homemade sourdough for a wholesome  seafood lunch, or share it as a starter for the table. With its country-style interiors and unwavering farm-to-fork ethos, The Shed is one of west London’s most dependable neighbourhood restaurants!
