Art fairs, biennials and art weeks to visit before the end of 2026

From Biennials in Tunisia and Nigeria to the art weeks dotted around Europe this winter, we’ve compiled a list of all the major art events not to miss between now and Christmas for anyone curious enough to look beyond the usual fanfare that comes with Frieze London and Art Basel Paris. Thought your art diary was starting to calm down this side of September? Think again.

#FLODown: They say that when one door closes, another opens - proven to be certainly the case in the art world, which will be simultaneously waving ciao to the Venice Biennale as they welcome the arrival of the Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement this month, which, for the first time in its history, will take place in Tunis rather than its home of Geneva, marking the fair’s first presentation on the African continent. Unfolding across a series of exhibitions, performances, concerts and conversations, the 8th edition of Jaou Tunis will present the largest and most comprehensive showcase of moving images in the MENA region. At its centre is an exhibition titled Becoming the Ocean, which draws together sixteen newly commissioned artists whose practices have been shaped by war, migration, ecological devastation and political struggle to ‘reflect on a world where inherited structures are increasingly unable to respond to the crises they have produced’.

Date: until 22 November 2026. Location: Caserne El Attarine, Souk El Attarine, Médina de Tunis, Tunisia. Price: dependent on the event. Click here for more information.

Art Cologne

Art Cologne: Kunstverein Ludwigshafen, Impression.

#FLODown: Art Cologne boasts a fact no other art fair can match thanks to it taking home the title of the world's oldest art fair. Yes, really. And although we deem it fair to say this year’s edition will most likely be trumped by next year’s (marking the fair’s 60th anniversary), there’s a lot to look forward to in Art Cologne 2026 as galleries from Germany and abroad present work from Classical Modernism and post-war art through to the contemporary. In addition to a New Positions section dedicated to emerging artists, there will also be a section titled Art + Object, focusing on fine art and collectible design objects. Whether you’re in the market for buying or browsing, where better to start than the world’s first-ever art fair?

Date: 5-8 November 2026. Location: Koelnmesse GmbH, Messeplatz 1, 50679 Köln, Germany. Price: €34. Concessions available. Click here for more information.

In true Irish tradition, this year’s edition features several presentations exploring ideas of nature, landscape, folklore, and our relationship to place, with highlights including a new series of landscape paintings by Elizabeth Magill at Kerlin Gallery and John Kindness’ Mythologies exhibition, opening at The Molesworth Gallery. The weekend will also see Robert Diament and TALK ART return to the fair for a series of special live events at the National Gallery, and the launch of the €40,000 Francis Bacon Awards for Irish Visual Arts, supported by Château La Coste. Heading to Dublin this weekend? Make sure your diary allows as much time for gallery hopping as it does Guinness sinking.

Lisbon Art Weekend

#FLODown: Lisbon Art Weekend may be relatively younger than its Art Week peers, but that doesn’t mean it's any less compelling, thanks to its sprawling format that rewards curiosity as much as it does a comfy pair of footwear. What’s more, the fair abandons a hierarchical system due to its ticketing or lack thereof: be it a polished gallery, working studio or private collector’s space, every event at Lisbon Art Weekend is 100% free. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed (this year’s edition boasts over 60 participating venues and 95 events spread across the city), make sure you have the ArtRabbit app ready as the fair has partnered with it to let you build your own curatorial route through the city. No extensive planning needed.

New York Art Week

The inaugural New York Art Week takes place from 11-14 November. Organised by Artforum with ARTnews and the New Museum.

#FLODown: If you’re more attracted to fairs that come with the big players and blue-chips, New York Art Week has your name on it. Organised by Artforum with ARTnews and the New Museum, the fair is more akin to a citywide contemporary art festival consisting of many walks and talks across Chelsea and Tribeca, as well as the Lower and Upper East Side. Attendees can expect all the names in art your heart could so desire, including Hauser & Wirth, Gagosian, David Zwirner, Pace, Lisson, Whitney, Guggenheim, and even The Met throwing their hat in the ring. Vienna Art Week

#FLODown: In a bid to reflect the collective anxiety felt across Europe, the 22nd edition of Vienna Art Week, taking place from 6-13 November, takes on the theme of ‘Navigating Angst’; asking how art can guide us through a bewildering present and what it means to describe a feeling that is at once invisible as it is palpable. In true art week fashion, the event includes a wide range of participants, from museums and art universities to galleries, independent art spaces, and individual artists, the latter two being central to the programme. Need more persuasion? Every event is free. Some inclusive tours are already fully booked, so if you fancy a quick trip, check the programme app before you spend an afternoon planning.

More than 250 artists representing over 52 nationalities are involved in this year’s edition, including art world favourites Yayoi Kusama, Viviane Sassen and Frida Orupabo. London audiences will also spot familiar names such as Frieze’s satellite fair Minor Attractions, which will present a new collaborative art initiative, NDEBT x diez Invites, to kick off Gallery Night with an experimental live performance and a curated DJ line-up. #FLODown: Titled The Museum of Things Unseen, the 2026 Lagos Biennial seeks to bring together works that question the museum's role in shaping stories and narratives passed down through generations. Curated by Furen Dai, Chinyere Obieze and Sam Hopkins, the Lagos Biennial will take place in the rapidly developing waterfront district of Eko Atlantic City on Victoria Island. More than 70 artists from Nigeria and around the world are included in this year’s edition (which marks five years of the fair), alongside special pavilions presented by the European Union, Floating Museum Chicago and other international cultural organisations. Expect a series of performances, screenings and live events throughout the three-week biennial to keep those conversations afloat long after gallery-opening hours.

Dakar Biennale

#FLODown: Join the end-of-year Biennale run with the 16th Dak’Art, Africa’s longest-running large-scale contemporary art biennale in Dakar, Senegal. This year’s edition, curated by art historian, publisher and curator Morad Montazami, is titled (Anti)Fragility: Arts of Repair and Counter-Shock Strategies and asks how fragility can be used to channel strength, resistance and creativity. Responding to this question are the 54 visual artists from Africa and its diaspora that make up the fair, with their work sprawling across a series of installations in the African capital from independent pop-up shows to studio openings, independent spaces, and art that stretches from the city’s beaches to its streets.

Date: 19 November - 19 December 2026. Location: various locations in Dakar, Senegal. Price: entry requirements yet to be confirmed.Click here for more information.

Newcomers to the fair include the Paris- and Brussels-based Christophe Gaillard gallery and the Luxembourg-based VF Art Project, as well as an accompanying programme that features the fair’s very own sculpture trail in addition to artist talks, performances and more, allowing for what the fair describes as a ‘convivial atmosphere made up of collectors, gallerists and artists’. Milano Drawing Week

Milano Drawing Week_ ucio Fontana, The Cowards (Pratelli, Sironi, Ponti), 1933, Graphite pencil and ink on paper, 28.9 x 22 cm, Courtesy Ramo Collection.

#FLODown: Providing an alternative take on the European art fair, Milan will swap its focus on contemporary art for drawing, honouring the fair’s roots as the only week in Italy exclusively dedicated to drawing as an art form. The fair itself was originally conceived by Collezione Ramo, a collection of around 800 works devoted entirely to Italian drawing of the 20th and 21st centuries. Each edition asks a selection of contemporary artists to choose a work from the collection and respond to it, encouraging a language spoken not through the written word but rather a different kind of line-making. Encouraging visitors to get involved, a series of workshops, performances and participatory events turn the city into a sprawling creative studio for one week. Find yourself intrigued? You can find all the fair’s highlights on the official website.

Date: 21-29 November 2026. Location: various locations in Milan, Italy. Price: free.

Setmana de l'Art, Barcelona

#FLODown: The capital of Spain may be Madrid, but anyone equally enamoured by the country’s culinary and artistic scene will know that Barcelona also holds the reins, at least when it comes to cultural capitals, which makes the city’s upcoming Setmana de l'Art an unmissable event. Rather than following in the footsteps of contemporary art fairs more interested in hosting the hoity-toity, Barcelona’s art week belongs to everyone and is especially designed to educate and inspire those who err on the side of caution when it comes to Europe’s contemporary art galleries. Above all, it is a citywide celebration of contemporary art in all its forms, spanning mediums such as film, painting, collage and performance. The festival also highlights artists' creative processes, inviting visitors to experience art from all angles.

Date: 27 November-4 December 2026. Location: Barcelona, Spain. Price: free. Click here for more information.

Art Basel Miami Beach

#FLODown: Tired of Europe? We suggest you look across the pond in time for Art Basel Miami Beach next month, considered to be the anchor of Miami Art Week.  Impressive both in size and performance, this year’s edition of the fair is set to include a whopping 272 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and territories. Additionally, more than 30 galleries will be showing for the first time, and you’ll find them in the Nova, Positions and Survey sectors. As mentioned, top and tailing the fair is the broader Miami Art Week, which attracts visitors from across the continent to Miami for the first week of December as a series of satellite fairs, openings and parties light up the city. One of this year’s highlights includes the unveiling of a new body of work by light installation artist James Turrell.

Date: 4-6 December 2026. Location: Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139, United States. Price: from $92. Concessions available.Click here for more information.

Art Antwerp

#FLODown: Considering Antwerp’s reputation in high fashion circles (the city is the birthplace of the Antwerp Six, after all), Art Antwerp is certainly not one to miss out on and, according to its organisers, is best characterised by ‘a cheerful and convivial end-of-year atmosphere’. What’s more, Art Antwerp's invitation-only approach for participating galleries helps establish its high-end reputation, letting you skip the usual eye-roll booths with mediocre paintings for a more curated, personal experience. Unlike larger art fairs, Art Antwerp prides itself on a ‘cozy atmosphere’ that fosters personal, long-lasting relationships among the collectors, art lovers, curators, artists, and galleries who attend. So, if you’re looking for a more soothing art fair experience after the mayhem of Frieze and Art Basel Paris, we couldn’t think of anywhere more fitting. For all of this year’s highlights, click here.

Date: 10-13 December 2026. Location: Antwerp Expo, Jan van Rijswijcklaan 191, 2020, Antwerp, Belgium. Price: from €20. Concessions available.
