Quick Guides: Klementinum - Prague

The Klementium is a complex comprised of several historical buildings. Founded by the Jesuits in 1556 it still serves as a centre for education and culture however, most of the buildings are closed to the public but you can explore the courtyard and attend the guided tours where you will gain access to one of the key features of the Klementinum, the Baroque Library. Guided tours start from 10 am daily and occur approximately every 30 minutes. The tours also feature the Meridian Hall and the Astronomical Tower.

 The Baroque library

The Baroque library hall was first opened in 1722. It is one of the largest and oldest libraries in Europe, with over 200,00 books and a collection of globes created by the Jesuits, the library is without a doubt the most beautiful in the world. Unfortunately you will not be able to enter the library or touch items within the library. However, the small area provided for you to view the library is sufficient enough to be able to view its beauty and get a good snap for the memories. To visit the library and appreciate the breathtaking views you must attend their guided tours.

The Meridian Hall

Located on the second floor above the Baroque Library. The hall was formally used to let the people of the city known when its noon. The room features several original astronomical instruments and during the tours, you will learn a great tale of the individuals who frequented the Hall.

The Astronomical Tower

The Astronomical Tower is 68m tall with 172 stops that will take you to the top of the tower, where you will find 360-degree panoramic views of Prague. Worth every step to reach!

If you have a fear of heights this may not be for you, the platform from the viewing tower is extremely narrow and the steps to the tower also steep.

#FLOFavourite: Google is currently digitising the content of the library so the books will be available for all to read. Cheers to preserving history!
