“What can sculpture do? Can it change the way you engage with art? But in the process can it change the way you engage with the world.”

The Exhibition of British Sculptor Anthony Gormley has landed at the Royal Academy of Arts. Gormley, once named Number 4 on the Daily Telegraph’s list of ‘100 most powerful people in British Culture,’ has gained critical acclaim for his metal men, modelled on his own rather tall figure, and his body forms dotted around the country including the famed Angel of the North in Newcastle.

This exhibition highlights his great work throughout his career, with some additional new features. Expect aluminium loops, iron cut body forms, sculpted men walking on ceilings and solid iron fruit hanging from the ceiling. Yes literally from the ceiling.

#FLOFavourite: We can't get enough of:

Clearing VII (2019). The black aluminium tubing fills the entire gallery room in several loops and looks like a beautiful scrabble. Clambering through the loops is a very relaxing feeling…

The Cave (2019), a monumental amount of metal that forms a tunnel to pass-through. This is not recommended if you are claustrophobic.

#FLODown: 100 % worth the visit. Whilst some may chastise Gormley’s work as repetitive or a regurgitation of past ideas, we say Bah humbug! The feeling we experience from art differs every location, time and day it is experienced…
