Winners announced for Young Masters Art Prize and Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize 2023

The Young Masters Art Prize and Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize for 2023 have announced their winners in a ceremony held in London on Tuesday 10 October 2023. The Young Masters Art Prize, an internationally recognised award, featured a panel of judges from the art world and academia. The overall winner of the Young Masters Art Prize, sponsored by Evelyn Partners, is the French/Mexican artist Alicia Paz for her work Juntas (Together) (2021), which draws inspiration from decorative arts, history books, botanical drawings, and geographical maps. Paz's installation portrays women from various eras, cultures, and social classes, forming a metaphorical self-portrait celebrating women thinkers, writers, artists, and loved ones.

The Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize was awarded to Anne-Laure Cano for her piece Ussade – 114 (2022), which explores her experiences as a foreigner in a new country and incorporates fragments from previously broken artworks. The award also included a highly commended prize, generously given by James and Maylis Grand, which went to Australian artist Ebony Russell for her porcelain urns decorated with blue stain, reminiscent of Wedgwood jasperware. Additionally, several other awards and recognitions were presented, including the Young Masters Emerging Woman Artist Award, which was given to South Korean ceramicist SaeRi Seo for her work Crooked Good Child (2023).

These awards highlight the outstanding work of emerging artists and celebrate their contributions to the world of art.
