Summer in the Square returns to Portman Square Garden this July for a celebration of food, art and wellbeing

Marylebone’s best-kept secret, Portman Square Garden, is once again set to bloom with life and laughter as Summer in the Square returns in July 2025. Now in its 11th year, this free community festival transforms the usually private garden into a lively, welcoming space for locals, workers and visitors. With its peaceful setting and leafy charm, the square will be home to culture, creativity and community throughout the week. The final days of Wimbledon will be shown on the big screen, offering a relaxed backdrop to a varied programme of food, arts and wellbeing.

This year’s festival includes an expanded cultural programme, with daily workshops and creative activities for all ages. Visitors can take part in Grayson Perry-themed art sessions, contribute to a community flag-making project, or enjoy family-friendly theatre inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The Central London Samaritans Choir – this year’s chosen charity partner – will also perform, helping to raise awareness of their work. Young visitors are well catered for, with a dedicated children’s area offering storytelling, outdoor play and hands-on activities, all supported by Lazari Investments.

Of course, no British summer gathering would be complete without great food and drink. Curated by Portman Marylebone, the Guest Kitchen offers a rotating menu of street food from some of London’s most exciting eateries, from juicy burgers by Zula and Japanese skewers from Junsei to Filipino classics by Naimas and seafood from La Petite Poissonnerie. Drinks are poured by Home House at the garden bar, while The Churchill Bar hosts cocktail tasting sessions for budding mixologists.

This year’s festival includes a wide range of wellbeing sessions, with a series of free or donation-based activities supported by Derwent London. The Wellness Den provides a peaceful retreat with mindfulness, breathwork and yoga classes, while Chiltern Street’s anatomē offers sensory bath salt blending to awaken the senses. It’s all part of a wider mission, driven by the Baker Street Quarter Partnership, to make Marylebone a more vibrant, sustainable and community-driven place to live, work and play. Workshop bookings can be booked via the website, all events are free with optional donations, raising funds for Central London Samaritans.
