Art exhibitions to see during Zurich Art Weekend 2026
Zurich Art Weekend returns from 12–14 June 2026, bringing together more than 70 museums, galleries, foundations and independent art spaces across the city. The free, city-wide programme features over 75 exhibitions and 150 events in the lead-up to Art Basel, with talks, performances, guided tours and workshops running throughout the weekend. With so much happening across the city, it can feel a little overwhelming, this guide is here to help you navigate it all, with a selection of must-see exhibitions across the weekend.

#FLODown: Rosa Barba is the recipient of the Zurich Art Prize 2026, awarded by Museum Haus Konstruktiv in recognition of her innovative practice at the intersection of film, sculpture, and installation. Her exhibition brings together works in which moving image, sound, and sculptural elements are integrated into a single spatial experience. By making the equipment and processes of film-making visible within the gallery, Barba transforms cinematic material into architectural and sensory compositions that explore time, perception, and the relationship between reality and fiction.

Emeka-Maduka: Lord of the Flies: The Plot Thickens

#FLODown: Ekene Emeka-Maduka’s exhibition Lord of the Flies: The Plot Thickens presents a body of work set within the fictional structure of a Nigerian boarding school, a system the artist once experienced and reimagined as a model of society. The exhibition focuses on adolescence as a shared and formative stage of life, and explores memory shaped by unreliable recollection and collective imagination rather than direct autobiography.

Fazal Sheikh: Erasure

#FLODown: Fazal Sheikh’s exhibition Erasure at Galerie & Edition Stephan Witschi is part of The Erasure Trilogy and focuses on the ongoing impact of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and its aftermath. The work reflects on the displacement of Palestinians, the destruction of villages, and the long-term trauma experienced by Palestinians, Bedouins, and Israelis. By making these histories of dispossession visible, the exhibition examines how violence and its consequences continue into the present, and how different communities remain connected through shared loss and mourning. It also addresses the idea of “erasure” itself, both the historical removal of people and places, and the tendency for these events to be forgotten or overlooked.

Mohamed Bourouissa: Pour Noubia

#FLODown: Mohamed Bourouissa’s solo exhibition Pour Noubia at Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst explores questions of social cohesion and belonging through intimate and storytelling. Drawing on personal narratives, including those related to his aunt Noubia, the artist works across photography, installation, and collaborative processes to challenge dominant historical and media representations and to foreground marginalised voices. During Zurich Art Weekend, the exhibition is accompanied by a public programme that includes a vernissage, an opening night party hosted by the artist, and an artist talk with curator Yasmin Naderi Afschar, followed by a book launch with Oriane Durand and a signing session, offering insight into Bourouissa’s evolving, relational approach to image-making and storytelling.

#FLODown: Katja Schenker’s exhibition Caryatids Go for a Swim marks the opening of Museum Haus Konstruktiv’s new premises in the western section of the Löwenbräukunst-Areal. The Swiss artist presents a solo exhibition that reflects over two decades of practice across performance, drawing, sculpture, and installation in both indoor and outdoor contexts. Working primarily with natural materials, Schenker explores their physical and sensorial qualities while also addressing spatial and temporal conditions such as density, transformation, and transience. Her works often emerge through processes that highlight material change over time, positioning the body, environment, and matter in close relation.

#FLODown: Aaaand… Scene / Und… Szene at Shedhalle Zürich is an international group exhibition that marks the launch of a new long-term programme exploring how exhibitions are constructed and experienced. Taking its title from the language of film production, the show treats the exhibition space as a staged environment where objects, bodies, and narratives come into relation. The project introduces the idea of “Re-Props”, modular artistic works that function both as artworks and as exhibition structures, such as seating, platforms, partitions, and display systems. These elements not only shape the space but are designed to be reused and reconfigured in future presentations, making the infrastructure of the exhibition part of the artwork itself.

Henrik Olesen: Copies of Real-Life Objects, Tools and Food

#FLODown: Henrik Olesen’s exhibition Copies of Real-Life Objects, Tools and Food at Kunsthalle Zürich marks his first solo presentation in the city in nearly twenty years. Occupying both floors of the institution, the exhibition brings together existing works alongside new pieces created specifically for the show, reflecting Olesen’s ongoing interest in systems of classification, everyday objects, and the structures that shape how meaning is produced. Curated by Fanny Hauser, the presentation extends his conceptual approach through sculptural and installation-based works that reframe familiar materials and references within a critical artistic framework.

Kerry James Marshall: The Histories

#FLODown: Travelling from the Royal Academy of Arts in London, The Histories by Kerry James Marshall at the Kunsthaus Zürich presents a series of large-scale paintings that reimagine historical painting by placing Black figures and everyday Black life at the centre of art history. The works address how history has been represented in Western art and challenge the absence of Black narratives, while celebrating identity, culture, and lived experience through detailed, symbolic compositions.

#FLODown: Not-Yets by Hana Miletić will explore care, repair, and maintenance through photography and handwoven textiles and will open at Galerie Tschudi. By translating images of everyday mending into woven form, Miletić will slow down processes of production and looking, challenging systems of speed and standardisation. Drawing on traditions of handwork and textile histories, the exhibition will consider how skills and gestures are passed across people, materials, and time.

Avery Singer: War_overlays

#FLODown: Hauser & Wirth Zurich will open WAR_OVERLAYS, a new exhibition by Avery Singer. The presentation will include new paintings and a site-specific installation that will reconfigure the gallery space into an environment reminiscent of a casino, shaped by ideas of surveillance, risk, and control. Singer will use AI and open-source tools to assemble imagery drawn from post-2001 references to warfare and mediated violence, which will appear as fragmented “overlays” within her paintings. The works will explore how images are constructed and circulated through technology, while the recurring figure of the poker player will act as a metaphor for strategy, chance, and perception within systems of high stakes and uncertainty.

Michel Pérez Pollo: Double Gaze

#FLODown: New paintings by Cuban-born, Madrid-based artist Michel Pérez Pollo will open at Mai 36 Galerie in Double Gaze. The exhibition explores objects as shifting, uncertain forms, using painting as a space for speculation rather than fixed representation. Pérez Pollo plays with perception and duality, inviting viewers to compare, question, and get lost in subtle similarities and differences within layered compositions where forms seem to divide, repeat, and transform.

A Kind of Paradise:Colonial-Era Photography in Contemporary Art
#FLODown: A Kind of Paradise at Museum Rietberg brings together works by twenty international artists who engage with colonial-era photography and its continuing impact on contemporary identity, history, and belonging. Featuring artists including Sammy Baloji, Yuki Kihara, Rosana Paulino, Wendy Red Star, and Sasha Huber, the exhibition reinterprets historical imagery through photography, collage, and mixed-media practices to question how colonial visual archives continue to shape collective memory. Across poetic and critical perspectives, the works open up alternative narratives that challenge fixed histories and imagine new forms of cultural understanding at Museum Rietberg.

#FLODown: Twenty Thousand Years at Galerie Fabian Lang brings together a group of contemporary artists working with ceramics. Rather than presenting historical objects, it highlights how today’s artists use the medium in inventive ways that combine strong craftsmanship with artistic experimentation. While the works are modern, they still relate to ceramic traditions, showing how the medium has evolved and how it continues to be reinterpreted by current generations.

jevouspropose X LOOKING: Looking Marathon

#FLODown: Looking Marathon is a day-long event dedicated to slow, attentive engagement with art. Organised by ZAW jevouspropose, an office for cultural projects, founded in Zurich in 2018 by Sabina Kohler, in collaboration with LOOKING, a Zurich-based project founded in 2025 by Chaja Lang and Sam Porritt, the marathon consists of eight consecutive one-hour sessions, each led by a different art-world nominator who presents a personally significant artwork, revealed only on site. Each session includes thirty minutes of collective viewing followed by reflections from the nominator and an audience discussion. Participants are encouraged to attend full sessions, as late entry is not permitted, and the event aims to create a space for contemplation and meaningful exchange through the shared experience of looking at art.
