Apple opens Apple Music Hall, a 600-seat live venue at Battersea Power Station

Apple has opened Apple Music Hall, a new live music venue inside London's Battersea Power Station, aimed at bringing artists and fans together through small, one-of-a-kind performances. Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and International Content, described the venue as the next chapter in a musical legacy that runs from the iPod through the iTunes Music Festival to Apple Music itself, calling it a step in supporting live music "in ways only Apple can do."

The design draws directly on its historic setting, with heritage brickwork, fluted arches, and bronze balconies that echo the power station's oriel windows, plus a large glass wall looking out over the concourse and the River Thames. With just 600 seats, the hall is built to feel intimate while offering arena-level production. Its 38-foot stage can be set up for a conventional front-facing show or reconfigured for in-the-round performances, and a 48-speaker spatial sound system surrounds the audience so they hear the performance from every direction.

Behind the stage, the venue doubles as a full production facility. Two professional recording and mix studios let every show be captured as a multitrack recording and mixed in Spatial Audio, either live or afterward. The building is wired for 16 or more cameras feeding a dedicated broadcast control room that can run iPhone video capture alongside traditional broadcast gear. Shows will also be livestreamed worldwide for fans outside London.

Alongside the venue, Apple is moving all of Apple Music Radio's London-based hosts and shows into new studios at Battersea, from which they'll now broadcast live. Zane Lowe, Apple Music's global creative director and lead anchor for Apple Music 1, said the company is always looking for new ways to connect artists and fans, "because we are fans."
