The Courtauld announces groundbreaking exhibition of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces
Major works from the Oskar Reinhart Collection ‘Am Römerholz’ to be displayed outside Switzerland for the first time.

The Courtauld Gallery is set to host an extraordinary exhibition of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art from the prestigious Oskar Reinhart Collection ‘Am Römerholz’, marking the first time these masterpieces will be displayed outside their home in Winterthur, Switzerland. The Griffin Catalyst Exhibition: Goya to Impressionism. Masterpieces from the Oskar Reinhart Collection will run from 14 February to 26 May 2025. This unique showcase begins with works by pre-Impressionist masters such as Goya’s Still Life with Three Salmon Steaks, Géricault’s poignant A Man Suffering from Delusions of Military Rank, and Courbet’s provocative The Hammock, before moving to an exceptional array of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works.

At the core of the exhibition are masterpieces from renowned artists such as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, including his striking The Clown Cha-U-Kao(1895), and Édouard Manet’s Au Café(1878), which captures the essence of modern life. A particular highlight is a pair of celebrated paintings by Vincent van Gogh—A Ward in the Hospital at Arles and The Courtyard of the Hospital at Arles—which vividly depict the hospital where the artist stayed during a turbulent period of his life. These works, alongside contributions by Renoir and Cézanne, offer an unparalleled opportunity to view some of the finest examples of late 19th-century European art.

The Oskar Reinhart Collection, housed in a villa near Zurich, features over 200 artworks that blend old master paintings with an exceptional group of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist pieces. Oskar Reinhart, a contemporary of Samuel Courtauld, shared a similar passion for art and left his collection to the Swiss confederation in 1970. This unprecedented collaboration between The Courtauld Gallery and the Reinhart Collection highlights their shared artistic vision and cultural ties.
