Skate at Somerset House with Virgin Atlantic Holidays returns for 2025
Somerset House’s celebrated ice rink returns this winter for the grand finale of its 25th birthday year. From 12 November 2025, Skate at Somerset House with Virgin Atlantic Holidays will once again transform the historic courtyard into London’s ultimate festive destination. Visitors can glide beneath the stars, surrounded by the neoclassical architecture and a magnificent 40ft Christmas tree. This year is set to be the most magical yet, packed with exciting new experiences, from warming winter treats and delicious food to unique gift shopping right in the heart of the city.

As part of Somerset House’s 25th birthday celebrations, this year’s Skate unveils its most ambitious artistic installation to date with a special commission by artist Harold Offeh. The rink becomes a shared canvas, encouraging skaters to express themselves and contribute to the artwork in motion. Inspired by Offeh’s Creating Patterns series, each glide and turn produces playful marks and dynamic shapes across the ice, turning the rink into a living artwork.
Skate Lates also return on selected weekday nights, bringing high-energy DJ takeovers from some of London’s most exciting talent. Expect sets from trailblazing Foundation FM, NTS favourite Ruf Dug, and queer dance collective Sue Veneers, alongside special nights inspired by Somerset House exhibitions, including DJ Shortee Blitz’s tribute to Jennie Baptiste’s photography.

New additions for 2025 include the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, with seasonal drinks and a prime view of the rink. The much-loved Alpine-inspired restaurant The Chalet by Jimmy Garcia returns with its signature raclette, joined for the first time by Blondies Kitchen and their festive treats. Shoppers can also browse with purpose at the Shelter Boutique, brought to you by HSBC UK, featuring donated pieces from favourite brands such as AllSaints, Nobody’s Child, Oliver Bonas and Topshop, with all proceeds supporting the housing and homelessness charity, Shelter.
From first-timers to seasoned skaters, everyone can enjoy gliding across the ice. The popular Skate School provides expert guidance, while children can take their first steps at the Kids’ Skate Club. Reduced-capacity “Chilled Out” sessions create a more relaxed atmosphere, and the rink is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this unforgettable London tradition!
