K7 week 2026 returns to Denmark with free museums as Norway joins for the first time

Once a year, museums, theatres, and concert halls across Denmark open up specifically for the country's youth, and this September, K7 Week is back for another round, now bigger than ever. The initiative began in Denmark in 2020 as a way to draw young people into cultural life, and has grown every year since. Taking place from September 7 to 13, 2026, the initiative gives young people aged 18 to 27 free entry to more than 250 museums and art halls nationwide, while Cinemateket and over 45 theatres and concert houses offer tickets for just 40 kroner to those aged 18 to 25.

Last year's edition was a clear success, drawing more than 90,000 visits and 65,000 young participants , roughly 9% of all Danes aged 18 to 27. Over 60% of those participants visited a venue they'd never been to before, suggesting that young people are curious about culture once the barriers to entry are removed. This year's programme includes special K7 events, workshops, talks, concerts, and guided tours, such as a T-shirt workshop, astrology sessions, and a concert at Nikolaj Kunsthal on September 10, a silent disco at ARoS on September 11, and a DJ set and talk at Skissernas Museum in Lund on September 12.

What started as a Danish initiative is now expanding across the Nordics. After 15 Swedish museums joined the campaign last year, Norway comes on board for the first time in 2026, with young people in the Oslo area getting free access to 13 Norwegian museums, including the National Museum, Henie Onstad Art Centre, the Natural History Museum, and the Intercultural Museum. "Connecting institutions, cities, and people through K7 Week is important, and it helps build the kind of community we want to be part of," says Anne Hilde Neset, director of Henie Onstad Art Centre.
