Art Basel unveils leading galleries and first highlights for its 2026 flagship show in Basel

Art Basel has revealed the 290 galleries set to participate in its 2026 flagship fair in Basel, Switzerland, alongside the first highlights of this year’s edition. Representing 43 countries and territories – with 21 newcomers across all sectors – the fair further expands its international reach, including new gallery representation from Ivory Coast, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Bringing together historical, modern, postwar, contemporary and emerging practices, the 2026 edition reaffirms Basel’s status as the most comprehensive expression of the global art market.

Returning with renewed ambition, the Premiere sector will expand from 10 to 17 presentations, providing a platform for museum-scale projects created within the past five years. Across the fair, visitors can expect an exceptional breadth of work, from art-historical masterpieces to bold new commissions and digitally driven practices. This dynamic range underscores Basel’s unique capacity to present multiple generations and geographies of artistic production within a single exhibition context.

Two major public commissions will mark a significant moment for the fair. As part of the inaugural Art Basel Awards Gold Awardees, established artists Nairy Baghramian and Ibrahim Mahama will unveil ambitious new site-responsive works in the city’s public spaces. Baghramian’s large-scale installation will be presented on the Messeplatz, while Mahama will transform the historic Münsterplatz.

Curated sectors will also play a key role in shaping the 2026 edition. Parcours, dedicated to site-specific installations and interventions, will once again be curated by Stefanie Hessler and will revolve around the theme of “conviviality”, exploring the pleasures and tensions of living together. Meanwhile, curator Ruba Katrib will lead her first edition of Unlimited, presenting large-scale and immersive projects that challenge conventional exhibition formats.

Across Galleries, Feature, Statements and Edition, the fair will present curated booths that foreground intergenerational dialogue, feminist re-readings of art history, radical material experimentation and socially engaged practice. From twentieth-century avant-garde masters to emerging artists making their Art Basel debut, the show promises a rich cross-section of practices that reflect both continuity and transformation within the field.

Art Basel in Basel will once again activate the entire city. Unfolding across Messe Basel, public squares and leading institutions, the fair anchors a week of major exhibitions and cultural events throughout Basel and the wider region, cementing its role as a focal point of the international art calendar.
