Supporters’ House opens at the National Gallery for members and patrons

The National Gallery has opened Supporters’ House, a new members’ space designed for socialising, dining and unwinding just moments from the heart of the collection. Housed in the beautifully restored former curatorial offices on the ground floor of the Wilkins Building, this is the first time the Gallery has offered a dedicated space for its members and patrons. Part of the Gallery’s ongoing Bicentenary capital project, Supporters’ House is intended as a cultural retreat – a space where art lovers can spend more time in a setting that balances luxury with creative inspiration.

Facing directly onto Trafalgar Square with its own dedicated entrance, Supporters’ House offers views of some of London’s most iconic landmarks, including Nelson’s Column and the fourth plinth. The transformation was led by architect Annabelle Selldorf, working with Purcell Architects and interior specialists Studio Linse.  The rooms follow a seasonal theme: from a copper-toned private dining room inspired by Turner’s sunsets to spring-blossom hues in the lounge and the pink summer blush of the Salon.

Supporters’ House is more than a space – it’s a new cultural programme in itself. A curated series of House Events will unfold in the Salon, featuring intimate talks, conversations with curators, and masterclasses. The series launches on 6 June with Art Distilled, hosted by Nancy Durrant. Day-to-day, members can enjoy a bar, lounge and dining room serving a menu by Giorgio Locatelli, or book a private dining space for a quieter moment. Every element is designed to foster community among those who support the Gallery and its mission.

The opening of Supporters’ House coincides with a refreshed membership model offering greater flexibility and choice. Open to patrons, donors, Young Ambassadors and corporate supporters, the space marks a new chapter in how the Gallery engages with its supporters. Just as importantly, their generosity helps keep the Gallery free for all – ensuring that everyone can continue to enjoy the nation’s art collection for generations to come.
