National Art Pass announces 2026 Museum of the Year Finalists

Five institutions have been announced as finalists for the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2026, the world’s largest museum prize, which recognises excellence and innovation across the museum sector.

The shortlisted museums are The Box in Plymouth, The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, The National Gallery in London, Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery, and V&A East Storehouse. Each finalist showcases a unique approach to collections and visitor experience, from historical storytelling and major art exhibitions to new ways of accessing and engaging with national cultural archives.

National Art Pass holders can also enjoy a range of benefits across the shortlisted museums, including free or discounted entry, reduced exhibition prices, and discounts in shops and cafés. Research led by King’s College London, co-funded by Art Fund, further highlights that engaging with art can have measurable positive effects on wellbeing.

The shortlisted museums will host special events and offers throughout spring and summer, with the winner set to be announced on 25 June at Cutty Sark in London. The winning museum will receive £120,000, while each of the other finalists will be awarded £20,000.

Summer National Art Pass offering

The National Art Pass is offering a special Summer Trial for just £20, giving three months of access to a wide range of cultural experiences across the UK. Designed for art lovers, explorers, and families, it includes free or discounted entry to over 450 venues and 50% off major exhibitions such as shows at Tate Modern, the V&A, and the National Portrait Gallery. With additional discounts in cafés and shops, the pass makes it easier to enjoy spontaneous days out, discover new places, and revisit cultural favourites throughout the summer season.
