National Ceviche Day: 28th June
Ceviche is a beloved seafood dish most closely associated with Peru, where coastal communities have been preparing fresh fish with acidic ingredients for centuries. Historians believe its origins stretch back to pre-Columbian times, later evolving through the influence of Spanish settlers who introduced citrus fruits such as limes. The dish is made by marinating raw fish in citrus juice, which gently firms the flesh while preserving its fresh, delicate flavour.
It is also the ultimate summer dish, light, bright, and refreshing, offering a perfect balance of zesty acidity, fresh seafood, and crisp vegetables. Served chilled and often accompanied by corn, sweet potato, or avocado, it captures the vibrant flavours of the season without the heaviness of cooked meals, making it ideal for the warm and sunny dayswhich lie ahead of us
Where to Celebrate
Señor Ceviche, Kingly Court, Soho
With its vibrant atmosphere and creative take on Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian) fusion, Señor Ceviche is a fantastic place to mark the occasion. Their approach is casual and playful, rooted in street-food culture, but the cooking is anything but low-effort, expertly prepared ceviches arrive bright with citrus, high-quality seafood, and bold seasoning. Beyond ceviche, the menu offers tempting starters such as Carimañolas (yuca fritters stuffed with cheese and served with a Huancaína salsa dip) and Rocoto Corn Ribs coated in rocotobutter with a camote lime dip. For something more substantial, there’s a selection of Peruvian BBQ mains. Pair your ceviche with one of their refreshing cocktails at the Pisco bar, and you have a perfect way to spend a day dedicated to one of the world’s great seafood dishes.

Neighbourhood Watch
Come summer many of Notting Hill’s restaurants and pubs are granted permission from Westminster to create terraces on the streets of this lively neighbourhood making the area even more vibrant and fun than it already is. Here are some spots which have opened their terraces for the summer.

Jusu Brothers, Notting Hill & Elephant & Castle
For 10 years now at Jusu Brothers Notting Hill location, they have been serving a menu built around simple, unprocessed ingredients in an airy light filled space with hanging plants, white walls and the buzz of juice making and a bustling kitchen at its centre.
After a decade here Jusu Brothers have created a community vibe with people casually popping in and out for a quick ginger shot, some stay to nourish themselves with a healthy juice while they work on their laptops, others step in after the gym or yoga for a nutritious lunch or after work for a glass of wine. There is something for everyone here.
With the warmer weather, the outside terrace is spacious and perfect to watch the coming and goings on Notting Hill’s shopping street - Westbourne Grove.
We popped in for lunch this week where we began with a Jusu ginger and apple shot followed by a spectacular soup of the day - an Umami Mushroom Broth fully deserving of a permanent spot on the menu. We tried their poke bowl, newly arrived on the menu for summer and Salmon Teriyaki Salad with spinach, cabbage slaw, quinoa, cherry tomatoes, feta, pistachios, red amaranth and honey mustard dressing. We left feeling full, healthy, satisfied satiated and positively virtuous.
Complementing the food here is an extensive array of delicious drinks, including pressed juices, superfood smoothies and wellness shots, all designed to support gut health.
A second Jus Brothers can be found tucked inside the newly restored Walworth Town Hall in Elephant & Castle.

The Pelican
The Pelican is one of Notting Hill’s most popular gastropubs and is the OG establishment of the successful Public House Group. The weekends are buzzing here with the front bar often bursting at the seams and spilling out onto the street which makes their outdoor terrace a welcome addition. The temporary summer terrace is well designed surrounded by lush plants and marked by large taupe parasols providing shade and sense of privacy, making the terrace feel intimate despite being directly on the street. A great spot for elevated pub dining and a pint with the fashionable crowd of Notting Hill.

UKAI
Ukai’s artwork on its corner façade has become a landmark along Portobello Road in Notting Hill. Having occupied this prominent spot for more than 20 years, Ukai remains a much-loved destination for both local diners and visitors alike
Inside, the restaurant offers an elegant yet lively atmosphere, while the arrival of summer brings the added appeal of dining on their terrace. Perfectly positioned to observe the vibrant activity of one of London’s busiest markets.
We visited for lunch this week and discovered it is a neighbourhood destination for Japanese cuisine offering an impressive dining experience at an accessible price point.
We began with Truffle Edamame and a tuna and snapper ceviche, beautifully presented on a bed of ice to preserve its freshness. This was followed by a selection of sushi rolls, with the Tuna and Avocado Tempura Roll proving a particular highlight, alongside an assortment of exceptionally fresh sashimi. The precise knife work was evident in the immaculate uniformity of each slice.
To finish we thoroughly enjoyed the Beef Short Ribs with red wine sauce which were so tender they practically melted inthe mouth. The Black Miso Cod’s subtly sweet glaze yielded to the fork with effortless elegance, each flake tender and buttery, infused with the umami depth only a long, patient marinade can achieve.
There is a full menu of well executed Japanese-inspired cocktails priced between £15-£18, alongside whisky-led serves, an extensive Japanese whisky selection and a strong sake offering. We sampled the “Hanami” of Roku Gin, Sakura Vermouth, Cherry Blossom syrup, lychee and lemon juice and cotton candy which potentially could have been exceedingly sweet but was instead perfectly balanced and nuanced. “Kome” of Havana 3 rum, clarified mango, toasted rice, and coconut delivered a subtle tropical character and was equally enjoyable.
The terrace is open 7 days a week from 11am–10pm until October - an easy spot for long afternoons that turn into evenings over Japanese whisky cocktails, sharing plates in the sun and people watching.

Vesper, Exmouth Market
One of London’s most anticipated openings, Vesper has welcomed its first diners during this week’s soft-launch period. The new restaurant comes from acclaimed chef-restaurateur Jackson Boxer, the creative force behind Brunswick House and Dove.
Occupying a double-fronted corner site on Exmouth Market, Vesper serves dishes that feel both familiar and inventive. Early standouts include the Raw Beef Tostada with scallop roe and lardo, the Stuffed Squid, Shrimp & MiddlewhiteBoudin with Salted Egg Yolk West , and handmade Chicken Liver Agnolotti finished with a rich Madeira jus. London’s newest Hotel from Founder Nick Jones
We all knew Nick Jones was not going to be opting for the quiet life after stepping away from the international private members club Soho House in 2019. First, he gave us the upscale “Corner Shop”– a café deli by day and a Wine Bar by night, near Temple Station which has been wildly successful.
In the same area he now brings us The St. Clement Hotel, his first independent hotel project, a highly anticipated 90-room, 15-suite independent luxury property, situated within the 180 Quarter at 12 Temple Place (WC2R 2PR) near the Strand.

Opening for limited summer stays, the boutique destination boasts loft-style apartments, a gym, Café Clement - an all-day café and bar, Bobbi’s Bar - a late night bar, and Lunette - arooftop restaurant by Florence Knight due to open towards the end of the year.
St Clement are currently taking reservations for their soft summer opening.
